HUB Ocean and World Wildlife Fund US (WWF) announced today a new collaboration that will deliver data-driven solutions at the intersection of ocean health, the blue economy, and peace and security. The partnership will accelerate current and future big data and AI-powered products targeting governments, the private sector, and scientific research benefitting people and nature.

The partnership will first focus on integrating the recently launched Oceans Futures platform with HUB Ocean's Ocean Data Platform (ODP). Oceans Futures is a first-of-its-kind predictive decision-support tool that identifies future conflict hotspots based on climate-driven fish migration. It targets users across governments, the private seafood sector, and civil society. Future initiatives under this partnership will include ocean energy and shipping, and will focus on delivering science-driven insights to companies, their lenders, insurers, and data-providers.

"At HUB Ocean, we are dedicated to leveraging technology to heal the ocean and advance the sustainability of industries that we need to grow worldwide, " said CEO Kimberly Mathisen. "Our partnership with WWF US and their Oceans Futures platform marks a significant milestone in our mission to promote sustainable ocean management and protect marine ecosystems."

Companies, the financial sector, and data-providers are in dire need for science- and data-driven solutions to keep on top of their exposure to climate and nature-related risks, said Johan Bergenas, senior vice president of oceans at WWF-US.  This partnership will accelerate action to derive and visualize geo-spatial data that highlight opportunities and risks for companies, their lenders, and investors.  This partnership is a manifestation of a nature positive blue economy on the move.”

HUB Ocean’s Mathisen added, “Collaboration between HUB Ocean and WWF-US exemplifies the power of partnerships in driving meaningful change in ocean conservation and sustainable development. We share a commitment to advancing the common goals and promoting a healthier, more resilient ocean for future generations, and we can’t do it without data.”
